Boom or Bust Pick: Week 12

Boom:
    -Jeremy Maclin (Juan Too Many)

     Stats: 9 receptions/11 targets/160 yards/1 Td/Total: 31 points

After having scored just 28 total points in his past 5 games, owner Josh Bruckert crosses his fingers

and inserted Maclin into his lineup as a WR2 option. Facing the 23rd ranked pass defense in the

league, Maclin completely exploited his counterparts across the line and made the Buffalo secondary

look like swiss cheese specifically with his 41 yard TD reception. Good work Josh!

Bust:
    -James Jones (Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood)
     Stats: 0 receptions/6 targets/ Total: 0 points

While James Jones' resurgent season has pleased the owners who were lucky enough to claim him

off of waivers, his production in the second half of the season, along with the Green Bay passing

game has been less than satisfactory. After a revitalizing 30-13 victory for the Green Bay Packers

over rival Minnesota, Jones saw 12 passes come his way, hauling in 6 of them for 109 yards and a

touchdown, amassing 24 points. Unfortunately for team owner, Juan Dominguez, James Jones was

sitting on his bench. In week 12, Jones was inserted into Juan's starting lineup but caught 0 of the 6

passes that were thrown his way. Better luck next week.

Honorable Mentions:
  • T.Y Hilton (Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood) 6 rec/95 yds/2 td/27 points
  • A.J Green (Team Ruby) 6 rec/61 yds/2 td/24 points
  • Antonio Gates (Team Huisman) 4 rec/53 yds/2 td/21 points
  • Julius Thomas (Juan Direction) 9 rec/116 yds/1 td/26 points

  • Davante Adams (Hernandez Hitmen) 2 rec/11 targets/14 yds/3 points
  • Frank Gore (Favre Dollar Footlong) 12 rush/24 yds/ 2 rec/13 yds/5 points
  • DeMarco Murray (Juan Sucks) 14 rush/30yds/1 rec/23 yds/3 points

Synopsis

It was an interesting year for the inaugural King of the Shack Fantasy Football League. Owners, Juan Dominguez, Taylor Huisman, Noah Ballweg, Zac Fiske, Josh Bruckert and Luke Drachenberg all took their talents to the Fantasy Football Gridiron to prove their craft at the worlds biggest sports game. With only 6 owners, the league commissioner formed an unheard of, 19-man starting lineup, made for high scoring matchups with very few free agents to choose from throughout the season.

2008 Detroit Lions (Luke Drachenburg) 2-10-1
The 2008 Detroit Lions managed by Luke Drachenberg, followed the experts predictions and drafted Adrian Peterson with the first overall pick in the 2014 draft. Coming off of an 11 touchdown season, this seemed like the right pick, however with the honorable Rodger Goodell's ruling, Peterson was suspended for the season following off the field issues. Peterson's final 2014 statistics were as followed: 1 game played; 21 rushing attempts; 75 rushing yards, and 0 Touchdowns. All but nullifying Luke's advantage of a #1 pick. Luke carried his team to a regular season finish of 2-10-1 and fell to Team Bruckert in the losers consolation bracket by a score of 686-690. Top Player: Andrew Luck: 336 points

Team Bruckert (Josh Bruckert) 3-10-0
Team Bruckert struggled in its first season competing in the King of the Shack league. With what looked like a promising start in the 2014 draft, LeSean McCoy proved to be a bit of a bust, dealing with multiple ailments and leaving owners frustrated and dreaming of the season he had a year ago. Picks such as Ben Tate and Doug Martin within the first 6 rounds of the draft left fellow owners scratching their heads due to the fact that LeVeon Bell and DeMarco Murray were still on the board. Nevertheless, Team Bruckert finished the season with a painful record of 3-10-0, with his quarterbacks Kaepernick, Alex Smith and Cam Newton all having tough statistical years. On a positive note, Josh finished the season with a consolation victory over the 2008 Detroit Lions led by Luke Drachenberg. With a solid victory, Team Bruckert looks to improve on a 3 win, 2014 season.  Top Player: Antonio Brown 251 points

Team Dominguez (Juan Dominguez) 9-4-0
Team Dominguez got off to a hot start in the inaugural 2014 Fantasy season, winning 4 of his first 6 matchups looking to build a solid record heading into the second half of the season. Juan would then lead his team to a 5-2 record in the second half of the season, claiming the second overall playoff spot in the league with a 9-4 record. Leading the way for Juan was running backs Eddie Lacy, LeVeon Bell and Marshawn Lynch, all workhorse backs who carried Juan's offense when need be. Unfortunately, Team Dominguez struggled mightily at the Quarterback position due to filled with names such as Griffin III,  and Carr. Come playoff time, this downfall was exploited by Team Huisman and Juan was forced into the consolation bracket as a result.
Top Player: LeVeon Bell: 272 points

Hernandez Hitmen (Noah Ballweg) 11-2-0)
Noah made a statement when he drafted two quarterbacks with his first two picks in the 2014 Draft, with an 11-2 record to show for that choice, he clearly was stating that he knew what he was doing. With Tony Romo, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers at the helm of his offense, Hernandez Hitmen proved to be nearly unstoppable throughout the regular season. While the QB's used the passing game to score points, Noah also utilized one of the best rushing seasons in NFL history by DeMarco Murray to fuel his run game heading into the playoffs. The two losses proved costly to Hernandez Hitmen however, and should have served as a warning sign of future things to come for Noah. The Milwaukee Panthers led by Zac Fiske took down Hernandez Hitmen twice in the regular season, and a third and final time in the first round of the playoffs on his way to the League Championship. With Aaron Rodgers hobbled by an ankle injury and Peyton Manning finally showing his age late in the season, Hernandez Hitmen fell off the pedestal and will be back for revenge in 2015. Top Player: Aaron Rodgers: 342 points

Team Huisman Taylor Huisman (7-5-1)
Known more for his grizzly beard than his fantasy expertise, Taylor Huisman entered the King of the Shack league and underdog and came out as the heralded runner up to the championship trophy. Led by airmen Phillip Rivers and Matty "ICE" Ryan, and game manager Russell Wilson,  Team Huisman came soaring into the league playoffs with all 3 of his quarterbacks looking to get their teams into the final playoff spots. In week 14, those 3 quarterbacks combined for a blistering 68 points compared to the 47 points of his opponent, Team Dominguez. Although his team may not have been check regularly throughout the season, his auto-drafted lineup remained faithful to him and proceeded to get him to the Championship game where he fell to Zac by a score of 436 to 291. Team Huisman will again look to build on a promising season and play the role of spoiler once again in 2015. Top Player: Russell Wilson: 312 points

Milwaukee Panthers (Zac Fiske) 6-7-0 League Champion!
Last but not in the least bit the least, your league champion, the Milwaukee Panthers. After starting the season with a strong 3-1 record, it seemed as if Zac would challenge the rest of the league for top spot heading into the playoffs, however losing the next 4 matchups in a row left Zac sitting with a 3-5 record and measure of desperation if he would want to make any noise in the playoffs for 2014. Zac made a trade with Team Dominguez, sending Eddie Lacy over to Juan in exchange for Arian Foster, this proved to be a game changer for Zac, as he finished his 3-5 mark with a 3-2 record which gave him the matchup he had hoped for in the 2014 Fantasy Playoffs. Facing Hernandez Hitmen in the first round of the playoffs, Arian Foster gave Zac a much needed 20 points in the first week of the playoffs and another 10 in the second week with big names such as Dez Bryant and Odell Beckham Jr. carrying the team the rest of the way. One very interesting statistic to take away from Milwaukee Panther's playoff run in this. In his first round matchup with Noah, Zac's quarterbacks scored 53 total points in two week while Noah scored 87 points with his quarterbacks. In his championship matchup against Taylor, Zac's QB's scored 77 points while Taylor's quarterbacks scored 93 total points. Breaking the stigma that good quarterbacks will guarantee you a championship. With great wide receivers, and solid defenses, Milwaukee Panthers blew every other team out of the water and it wasn't even close. Definitely a season to remember as a 6-7 squad went on to hoist the championship trophy. Top Player: Jay Cutler: 244 points

Final Statistics:

2008 Detroit Lions, sporting a 2-10-1 record had 3 of the top 6 fantasy players in 2014. Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, and Andrew Luck.

Hernandez Hit Men led the league in total points scored with 2561, many of those coming from Aaron Rodgers and DeMarco Murray. Team Huisman scored the least amount of points with 2168 just 11 points behind Team Bruckert.
Hernandez Hit Men also led the league with the highest one-week point total with 254 points in a week. While Team Huisman held the lowest amount of points scored in a week with 95, in week 4.

Milwaukee Panthers who posted an ugly 6-7 record in the regular season caught fire in the playoffs, averaging 207.5 points over 4 weeks with the next closest averaging 177.5 (Hernandez Hit Men) Making Milwaukee Panthers not only the first inaugural champion of the league, but also the first to win the championship with a losing record in the regular season. Will the same trend continue in 2015-2016?? Will Zac claim the title for the second year in a row, or will a contender rise to the occasion?
